Tetramethoxymethyl glycoluril (TMMGU) is a functional cross-linking curing agent dedicated to high-performance weather-resistant powder coatings. It is mainly formulated for outdoor pure polyester powder coating systems and serves as a high-quality environmentally friendly alternative to traditional amino curing systems. It is widely used in powder coating scenarios with stringent requirements for coating weather resistance and stability, including outdoor building materials, aluminum profiles, outdoor electrical appliances, and transportation components.
In terms of application mechanism, the methoxymethyl functional groups in the molecular structure of TMMGU can undergo cross-linking reactions with hydroxyl and carboxyl groups in polyester resins, forming a high-density, highly stable three-dimensional network film structure. It adapts well to the high-temperature baking and curing process of powder coatings, delivers uniform film formation, and effectively improves the overall performance of coating films.
Compared with conventional curing agents for powder coatings, TMMGU features prominent core advantages. First, it possesses excellent weather resistance and anti-yellowing properties. The cured film offers strong resistance to ultraviolet and thermal aging, and is not prone to chalking, discoloration or gloss loss during long-term outdoor service, fully meeting the requirements for long-term outdoor protective coatings. Second, it delivers superior environmental performance with an extremely low free formaldehyde content, complying with the production and application standards for high-end eco-friendly powder coatings.
Meanwhile, this curing agent has high cross-linking efficiency, which can significantly enhance the mechanical properties and chemical resistance of powder coating films. It endows the films with improved resistance to salt spray, acid, alkali and solvents, as well as better coating hardness, adhesion and impact resistance.
